One of the home-related tricks I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around is how to easily, cheaply and efficiently change Anselm’s nursery into Elvie Kate’s nursery. After three boys’ rooms, I’m so excited for the chance to do something more feminine in there! But it is my personal challenge to myself to keep the changes as low-cost as possible. It’s how we do things.
Here is Anselm’s room now:

(Actually right now it’s a jumbled mess of boxes of winter clothes to be switched out, but you know. This is what it’s supposed to look like.)
Anselm’s room was a soft, moody, vintage-inspired room in shades of blues and greys and woodsy tones, with some coral thrown in for good measure because I happened to have a lot of coral stuff on-hand. I have adored that room for the past two years–it is a very quiet space. It’s at an awkward corner of the house where it doesn’t get much light, which frankly I think is appropriate for a nursery.
We put that wood wall in a couple of years previously. I think I was pregnant with Clive at the time–though it was a guest room then, and not a nursery (Clive shared a room with his big brother as soon as he outgrew his bassinet.) We kept the accent wall for Anselm’s room; though I’m a little tired of it, I think it will stay over in Elvie Kate’s room, too, since taking it down would mean repainting behind it and filling in all of those little nail holes, and I just don’t think I’m up to it.
At first I planned on just bringing in art, curtains (to cover the wood), and painting/dyeing the pieces we already had in the room to effectively change it from masculine to feminine. The wallcolor–Valspar’s Daydream Haze, my favorite–is a really versatile color that basically goes with everything, so I would leave it on the walls. I’d find a way to make that Bergere chair pink (the chair upholstery is not in good shape, so I don’t feel like I’d ruin it by spray-dyeing it. Actually the wood on the arms is in terrible shape too, so I wouldn’t mind painting it, either.) Keep the rug, cover the wood wall, and the room would completely transform, right?

Love the quilt. That needs to be the focus! So special.

That’s the plan! …Sort of! Haha

First of all, how can you make the pictures, etc. look so professional? Love that. Second, I really like the idea of the second look. I am sentimental and I think you really need the quilt picture. the wood accent is unique; It would look ‘right’ with rocker. No matter what the final outcome, you really do have a knack for this—love the person doing the exploring.

I used a site called polyvore. 🙂 It’s also why most of the stuff in the room is random and expensive. I just pick things that are similar to what I have, though sometimes I upload my own (like the crazy quilt.)

You’re tired od the accent wall ehh? How about a white washing of it?
Erin says
I thought about that, but what if I white wash it but then like it less than the wood look and then I’m stuck with it? D:
