Mr. Anselm is one month old today.
He is a simple man, enjoying the simple things in life: eating, sleeping, grunting, and occasionally spitting up.
He is beginning to smile, those snarly newborn smiles where their eyes smile first and they desperately try to get their mouths to follow along.
It’s hard work. He sometimes goes cross-eyed in the process.
He’s entering what I affectionately think of as the black-and-white picture phase, since that processing makes the baby acne and peeling skin a little less noticeable. All of Clive’s pictures from this age are black-and-white, too.
He’s officially out of the newborn sleepy mode, which is exciting as it means we begin to see exactly what his personality will be like, and how he’ll fit into the family dynamic. It’s also somewhat daunting, as it means we begin to see exactly what his personality will be like, and how he’ll fit into the family dynamic. I’ve told him several times that it’s his job to be the laid-back, easygoing one of the three, since I’ve already got two strong-willed little sons.
We’ll see how that turns out.
