It’s been over seven months since we moved up here to the place we affectionately refer to as Janderhil.I made that name up while scrambling letters of our surnames and looking up old place-naming prefixes and suffixes. I ended up with Jan, yahn, a variant of John, which is my dad’s name. Then der-hil, of the hill, a mash-up of sorts, because it sounds like “yonder hill”. And then I felt foolish about the name and how much I liked it, and I sat on it for a year before finally mentioning it to someone. Thankfully they liked it.
I gave a quick tour of the house back in May, and here is a small look into how it looks now.
The biggest
The biggest change for the main room is that we tore down the cabinets that separated the kitchen from the rest of the room. That was a lovely change, though it has left a bare spot in the ceiling, it was something we’ve all wanted to do for a long time.
Other than that, it was just paint and hanging things up and moving our things around.
Some of those boxes got unpacked, some got moved to the basement, some were just gotten rid of. The furniture moved to the Ham House and ours was moved in. One of my goals for the coming year is to begin to use that front door; we never did when I was growing up.
In the rest of the house, the kids’ rooms got switched, and they are being worked on now. Unfortunately my mind has been running off with me, and I have far, far too many ideas and no way to really implement most of them. 2017 may be the year that I finally learn how to wield some power tools and actually be able to bring some ideas to fruition without bugging Jeremy all the time! I will update those when there is something to update.

It certainly is an improvement over what it was!
